surviveSTRONG uniteSTRONG Community Conference
LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA is hosting our FIRST ANNUALsurviveSTRONG uniteSTRONG Community Conference
Saturday, May 17 | 9am – 4pm Central Spokane YMCA | 930 N Monroe Street
This first annual surviveSTRONG uniteSTRONG Community Conference hosted in collaboration with our LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA Program, and the LIVESTRONG ® Foundation, promises to be a truly inspiring and educational day for cancer survivors and their support persons. Nicole Manus, LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA Program Coordinator, noted that the structure and content of the conference was created after surveying area survivors, who noted gaps in their post-treatment education and support. This full day of classes, workshops and presentations, along with a soup & salad buffet lunch featuring vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options and a dessert bar, is sure to strengthen and nurture participants in spirit, mind and body.
A wide variety of sessions – over a dozen, are planned ranging from Drums Alive (cardio drumming), young survivors meet-up, parenting through cancer, and research updates, to fashion tips. Take a look at the Conference Schedule below for full session listings.
Conference Keynote Speaker Carol Dellinger says, “You never know how strong you have to be until being strong is the only option”. Carol is a warrior marathon runner and cancer survivor who has finished 276 lifetime marathons, 41 of them since being diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2009. Now 100% cancer free, Carol is an inspiring speaker with a warrior fighting spirit, who proves that challenges can be overcome!
We are blessed in the Spokane area to have truly extraordinary oncology specialists and cutting edge technology available. While we have this medical support, people don’t often think about cancer’s collateral issues that are not medically treated. Cancer changes relationships, alters bodies, impacts sexuality and self-image, often leaving effected individuals unprepared to navigate the post-treatment journey to physical, mental and spiritual wellness. Do you know someone who is living with cancer or is a cancer caregiver; tell them about this inspiring day of hope and renewal!
$15 for LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA Alumni Club Members
$30 for YMCA Members and LIVESTRONG ® at the YMCA program graduates
$40 for Community Members
Financial assistance is available and survivors may include the name of one support person who will attend the conference with them at no additional charge.
